Calgary’s dry climate is well known for having adverse effects on our health and certain home features (ie. hardwood floors, wood furniture, etc.). A humidifier can improve your home comfort by keeping your home’s relative humidity (the percentage of moisture content in the air of the home) within the 40-60% range, as well as add savings to the utilities bill.
U.V. Air Treatment
A U.V. light emits ultraviolet light rays, sterilizing the air passing through the equipment. These U.V. rays kill 99.9% of microbial growth and floating airborne bacteria, and destroy harmful pollutants in your home that a filter is simply unable to catch due to the minuscule size of these harmful particles. A U.V.
It is recommended that Air Treatment systems are installed when installing an air conditioning unit in your home due to constant condensation drainage from the indoor coil which causes the growth of harmful bacteria.
Clean air is essential for anyone living with allergies, respiratory illnesses, such as asthma, or has air quality related concerns.
Electronic Air Filtration
Cold Air Dampers
A cold air damper could be the answer to help make your A/C unit and furnace run more efficiently. A damper is placed at the terminating end of a fresh air intake duct. When the thermostat asks for heat, the damper will open and let fresh air in, once the furnace stops working the damper will close to prevent excess cold air from entering. This process also works in a similar manner with the A/C unit and warm air in the summer.
An electronic air filter is a reusable filter that uses an electrically charged screen to reduce airborne contaminants in your home. These filters attract and trap smaller particles in the air and prevent them from being recirculated in your home.
Electronic air filters are considered environmentally friendlier products as the reusable electronic filter is cleaned by washing, instead of being regularly replaced like traditional disposable air filters. Similar to to the U.V. light, an electronic air filter may have a positive impact to families who have air quality related concerns.
One of the easiest ways to save on your energy bill is upgrading to a programmable thermostat, allowing you to automatically adjust your home’s temperature throughout the day. By setting the temperature lower during the night or when you are away, you will automatically save money every month.
The newest thermostat models also allow you to access your home’s temperature settings remotely from a smartphone, making it easier than ever to control the conditions in your home for optimal levels of comfort.
Carbon Monoxide Detectors
As the name suggests, a carbon monoxide detector monitors the level of carbon monoxide in your home. Like a smoke detector, it will go off should indoor carbon monoxide levels become hazardous. In order to maintain the detector in full working order, the device must be younger than 10 years old from its date of manufacture. By Alberta code, a carbon monoxide detector must be present on every floor where there are bedrooms or sleeping areas. Without a carbon monoxide detector, this gas is almost impossible to detect.
